Purchasing

Because the success of your school furniture project depends upon the purchasing process itself, Contrax Furnishings has the resources and system in place to make the entire procedure easy and cost-effective.

Contrax Furnishings provides access to all of the furniture lines we represent – including hands-on demonstrations – allowing you to make selections for your entire project, including styles, colors, fabrics and surfaces.

Regardless of the size of your project, we will also conduct product education demonstration sessions with decision-makers, committees and district boards. Our objective is to expedite the process so you can focus on other aspects of opening your new school – such as hiring staff, finalizing curriculum, and countless other responsibilities.

Many products that Contrax Furnishings offer are available for purchase through state, school district, piggybackable or cooperative purchasing agreements.

Our purchasing services includes:

  • Full pricing proposal
  • Hands-on product demonstrations
  • Room-by-room furniture lists (quantities, descriptions, pricing and contract information)

The Hidden Costs of Purchasing on Your Own

Making a major educational purchase on your own will involve costs that are typically unanticipated. In many cases, when the decision-maker – whatever his or her position in the school or school system – takes charge of the purchasing, the task demands time and resources from other critical areas. If purchasing for a public school, you will also spend district resources to run a business – such as your own warehouse operation – without accounting for the costs.

Other hidden costs include:

  • Time spent researching information related to product, specifications and needs assessment – including the guesswork involved when placing orders based on product pictures in a catalog. The length of project workups can drain the time of staff members when they need to concentrate on other priorities leading up to the school opening.

  • Overbuying some items and under-buying others based on general, rather than specific planning. Specific planning involves the use, capacity, space and layout the school plan is assessed on a room-by-room basis. These assessments are then brought forward into the "macro" plan for facility furnishings. This ensures that only what is needed is purchased – avoiding the waste and excess which often occur without such specific planning.

  • Extra time spent communicating to multiple vendors regarding all aspects of project coordination. From the initial meeting with each individual vendor concerning purchases, all the way to the number of phone calls that must be made whenever plans change, the complexity – and chance of error – increases exponentially when involving multiple vendors.
  • Line Item Bids – which consume additional valuable time without a guarantee you will achieve real long-term value through your purchase.
